UnitingCare continues to promote Christmas Appeal

14 December 2009

Into the final two weeks, donations to the 18th UnitingCare Christmas Appeal are nearly matching those made this time last year, but sales of gift cards are down by 35 per cent.

While the nation is giving generously - without the support of stimulus payments and the stronger economy seen last Christmas - UnitingCare is asking Target shoppers to support the gift card promotion. Gift cards can be purchased from Target and Target Country checkouts, or online for either $10 or $20 at www.target.com.au/giftcards

After three weeks nearly 17,000 gifts have been raised for the appeal and gift cards sales have totalled $23,000. The appeal aims to raise 150,000 gifts before it closes on 23 December.

This week the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania has issued a third round of national media releases to promote the appeal. This follows national press releases issued before and after the national launch on 16 November.

Thanks to provincial and suburban media, and their close relationships with local UnitingCare agencies, there has been strong media coverage in print publications. Also thanks to Target’s media promotions, mainstream TV and radio covered the launch events in Sydney and Melbourne.

For more information on the appeal visit the official website at www.unitingcarechristmasappeal.org.au.
